single at 40

Single at 40? Obviously, there are plenty of disadvantages to going around, but what about the benefits of dating someone? I tend to beat myself up over what I can improve upon while dating, what I’m doing wrong, why I often struggle with finding the proper match for me, and then it occurred to me: it’s actually not as horrid as I once thought.

You see, I tend to be that ‘glass half full’ kind of guy. Maybe it’s a tad bit delusional, unrealistic, or naive, but I’m happier that way. I also maintain some peace in the madness and chaos of everyday reality. Don’t steal my thunder — I like it like that.

I have a lot of experience being married and in relationships in the past. Some good experiences, some painful, some that I regret, some that I’d like to forget, but I am human, after all. After the dust has settled from my past relationships and thinking back to my young experiences while dating and my previous marriage and relationships, I find myself single at 40 and looking around for the next relationship that will validate my previous mistakes, and make me feel more confident in how I’m living and evolving in my lifestyle. So what do I have to look forward to with dating in my 40s? Here are some of the benefits.

You have previous relationship experiences

I would hope that my previous relationship experiences would give me an advantage in my next potential relationship. When you’re over 40, you’ve probably been around the block a little bit, and you know what type of things to avoid with dating, and what tends to work out well for you. For instance, I don’t think that ‘Charlie Sheening’ is going to work right now as it did in my earlier days (partying and messing around).

I’ve learned the essential things that really tick women off because I’ve already been through the ringer(s) myself. I’ve also lived with women and reproduced, so I have that valuable experience under my belt. I learned from my past mistakes, and I’m more prepared to date now in my 40s, and quite frankly, I’m ready to kick some major ass as well.

You still have your health

The 40s are the new 30s. In fact, I still get carded for cigarettes on occasion at the gas station. I don’t look like I’m 40! Whatever! I also still have my health, and I’m able to work on myself, lift weights at the gym, and run on the treadmill (even though I do tend to slack off sometimes exercising). It’s not like I’m in my eighties looking for love. In fact, I tend to vibe with younger women because of my maturity level! It’s a win-win.

I remember those younger days in high school or college when guys were fighting over all of the young and pretty women. Well, now the tables have turned, and I get to pick and choose from the masses on online dating sites. Yay me!

You (hopefully) have a good job

Women like older men who are more seasoned and have a good job. Look at George Clooney — women love him! (I know, I don’t really understand either). Hopefully, by the time you’re in your 40s, you have your career going. It’s not like when you were in your 20s straight out of college trying to find your first real job. I would think that this would be another advantage for a guy in their 40s with dating — you’re not a burger-flipper at McDonald’s anymore.

If you’re single at 40, wealthy, and well-off, good for you! You’re a bachelor with some cash. Women love guys with money. In fact, sometimes you can look ugly, overweight, and terrible, but as long as you dress in an expensive suit and have money, you’ll be ok with some women (the gold diggers). When you have a decent job and your career is going places in your 40s, you will be more attractive to single women. Most women want men to take care of them (but not the sugar mommas, they take care of you).

You’re more seasoned with real-life experience

If you’re in your 40s, and you have extensive knowledge of certain skilled trades, you (should) do well with women, and you’ll be a catch. So not only do you have previous relationship experiences, but you know how to fix things around the house as well. This ability doesn’t apply to everyone, however, such as certain snarky writers, but I have different life experiences to offer.

You may also have experience with your adventures, travels, previous living arrangements, businesses, etc. Maybe you’re an entrepreneur who knows how to wheel and deal with clients. This is another asset that will appeal to most women if you’re business-wise and know what you’re doing.

Whatever you’re gifted and seasoned with, your 40s dating life will prosper with your real-life experience. For instance, I don’t mean to brag, but I can grill some tasty Johnsonville cheddar brats. A woman someday will absolutely benefit from my grilling experience. Maybe you also have a lot of experience that will benefit her. Women hope to benefit from you as well.
